FarmSchool Mount Dora

FarmSchool is a hands-on agricultural education program designed to enrich the learning experience of homeschool and PEP scholarship students through experiential learning. Students explore agriculture, animal science, environmental stewardship, biology, and life skills while actively participating in the daily operations of a working farm.

Each class combines classroom discussion with hands-on activities that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, responsibility, and teamwork. Students interact with a variety of farm animals while learning proper care, nutrition, safety, and humane handling practices.

Students participate in daily farm chores including feeding animals, watering, grooming, cleaning stalls, maintaining barns, and caring for the overall health and well-being of the animals. Lessons are adapted for different ages and abilities while encouraging confidence, independence, and respect for animals and the environment.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of FarmSchool, students will be able to:

Demonstrate safe and humane animal handling techniques.

Identify the basic nutritional and daily care needs of common farm animals.

Explain the responsibilities involved in operating a working farm.

Apply concepts of biology, agriculture, and environmental science through real-world experiences.

Develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

Practice responsibility through daily farm chores and animal care.

Strengthen observation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Build an appreciation for agriculture, conservation, and community stewardship.
